Aberdeen Aquatics Centre

System: Dryvit ACR 200
Finish: PMRB
Texture: Sandpebble Fine
Sector: Retail/Leisure

Built by Graham Construction and opened in May 2014, the Aberdeen Aquatic Centre builds on the success of the £28M Aberdeen Sports Village which opened in August 2009. The centre is a partnership between Aberdeen University, Aberdeen City Council and Sport Scotland.

The Aquatic Centre includes a 50m Olympic size swimming pool, a 25m x 16.5m diving pool with a 10 m high board and the latest technology in water cushioning systems, seating for 600 spectators, a health suite, and a bridge connection to other areas of the Aberdeen Sports Village complex. Whilst the centre allows Aberdeen to host national and international aquatics competition, it is primarily a community facility to which everyone has access.

Dryvit worked closely with the Architect, Faulkner Browns, and the Design Team from Graham Construction to meet the requirement for a system that could provide a crisp white finish for the internal elevations to underpin the projects design intent. There was also a requirement for the finish coat and render materials to be robust enough to perform in such a humid environment.

After review the Dryvit ACR 200 system was specified as its wide array of texture and finish options met the design team’s requirements while the system possessed the necessary technical performance criteria for a pool environment. The system was installed onto a lightweight steel frame substrate that had been sheathed with a dimensionally stable render carrier board.

Dryvit worked closely throughout the installation phase with Main Contractor and Specialist Installer to ensure that the system was installed in line with Dryvit technical guidelines and the highest possible levels of finish quality were achieved.
